Flue maintenance and testing

Flue systems, regardless of the combustion appliance they are connected to, are arguably one of, if not THE most important part of any combustion system. They are responsible for conveying products of combustion safely into the atmosphere. Their incorrect function carries significant implications to the appliance that the flue system is connected to. Flue systems should be checked by a professional just as frequently as the appliances that are connected to them.

Identifying faults and rectifying them through maintenance is key to getting the most out of a flue system and most importantly, ensuring that it is operating safely.

Vulcan offers both one off fault finding, flue and duct safety and integrity tests systems or annual servicing contracts meaning Vulcan’s team of engineers are there for you quickly and as you require us. Vulcan Flue Systems offer the following flue maintenance and testing services:

• Smoke evacuation checks - useful for flue systems that operate under negative pressure/ natural draught to ensure products of combustion are unobstructed and evacuating as intended.
• Smoke integrity tests - useful to help identify any obvious leakage of flue gas
• Flue pressure testing - useful to get accurate readings of leakage rates in measured units, to ensure permissible leakage rates are not exceeded.
• CCTV investigations - useful to get eyes on suspected internal flue faults with the ability to measure and plot fault location within flue system.
• Flue performance calculation checks - useful to assess flue performance across appliance(s) entire operational range under varying conditions to help diagnose any potential design faults on symptomatic flue systems.
• Visual checks and condition reports.

Our advice, particularly on flue systems that are serving plant that is in constant operation, would be to have a yearly check carried out. We would advise the necessary steps to take which would be particular to the project in hand.
