Boiler systems are designed to generate heating and/or hot water for commercial and residential buildings and are often positioned in banks within a communal plant room.
Combined heat and power (CHP systems) are designed to produce electricity and heat simultaneously and are suited to large-scale commercial applications.
Diesel powered generators are mainly included within a building as emergency back up power in the event of a power outage.
The design, configuration and sizing of flue systems serving these appliances must ensure adequate conveyancing of the flue gasses safely to the outside atmosphere without creating hazard or nuisance at the point of discharge. The structure of the flue components must also ensure no hazard to the fabric of the building or to the occupants of the building and provide the appliance at the flue outlet with the draft conditions required to ensure optimum performance throughout the appliances operational spectrum.
All flue systems designed and installed by Vulcan are in line with all relevant British Standards, IGEM publications, Gas Safety (Installation and Use) regulations and comply with the clean air act and Clean Air act memorandum where applicable. This ensures compliance in terms of design, product selection and installation.

Whatever the appliance, whether it be a communal heating appliance(s), an appliance designed to deliver power with heat as a byproduct or an appliance intended to offer back-up power supply, if it generates harmful combustion gasses, it will need a flue system to serve it. As with most things, flue systems aren't as simple as they might first seem. It is not just a case of connecting a flue of equal size to the appliance connection and following the most desirable and convenient route, providing you terminate externally to the building. A process that complicates further when multiple appliances are required to connect to a combined flue system.
There are many design considerations needed. There are a number of flue calculations required. Early planning is essential and coordination with other services is a must.
Whilst many companies only offer a 1 year warranty on their flue systems, Vulcan understands that flue systems should last the test of time and therefore, only flue systems which have a material warranty of at least 2 years on a single wall and 10 years on a twin wall insulated flue systems are supplied and installed by Vulcan Flue Systems.
Material quality is important to us but it is worth little without the best and most thorough of designs to accompany it.
